Social Distancing Doesn’t Have To Be Miserable

To many, this time can be difficult and frustrating. While we’re all hanging out at home, biting our fingernails and waiting for the latest news, there are much better things to be doing.

Self-quarantine is a blessing in disguise.

Not only does Mother Earth get a warranted break from human activity and pollution, but so do we! Why not use this time wisely and to your advantage?

Now we can do all the things that we didn’t have time for before! Household chores and projects, activities we’ve always wanted to try or learn, new hobbies to develop. There has never been a better time to learn than now.

Here is a list of activities to try and hobbies to indulge in, while we’re all wallowing in self-quarantine bliss:

GOLFING

While the gyms and certain classes are on hold until further notice, you can still enjoy so many activities with SunRiver Villas St.George! It’s never too late to learn how to Golf, for one.

Trust me, I would know. I just recently learned how to golf after resisting the urge for long, and it is way more fun than it looks, my friend. There is no better feeling or sound than that of hitting a golf ball perfectly dead center of your driver.

Pure bliss.

With access to the beautiful 18-course golf course year-round, you can learn whenever you want, on your own time. Or consider joining the golf club? You don’t have to know how to play, or even be good to join– simply meet new friends and learn from some of the best, and you’ll get there in no time.

POTTERY & WOODWORKING

Or perhaps you have always wanted to try your hand at pottery? Another activity that it’s never too late to learn (unless you are a bit weak in the hands).

Don’t get it twisted– pottery can require a bit of strength and elbow grease for those larger vases you wish to decorate your mantle with.

The pottery facilities at SunRiver St. George aren’t currently open, but you can create pieces of clay art in your home if you have your own pottery wheel, or you can use slab technique to create pieces without a wheel! YouTube has many helpful tutorials if you’re a beginner.

Woodworking is much of the same– a little bit of elbow grease and perhaps a speckle of wood dust in the eye every now and then. Like pottery, the SunRiver St. George woodworking shop is closed, but if you have the correct tools at home, you can create wonderful pieces. Nothing beats creating a beautiful piece for your home, with your very own hands.

BOOK CLUB OR CREATIVE WRITING

Perhaps the idea of physical exertion isn’t all you are looking for during your lockdown period? Although there are no club meetings during this time, you can join an online book club, or form a book club with someone you live with!

The great thing about Creative Writing is you can easily do it at a desk in the privacy of your own home! All you need is a laptop or notebook and an idea!

The best writers in history did not necessarily set out to be writers in the first place.

DANCING AND UKELELES!

Ah, yes, for those of you born with music and movement in your bones, this one for you! Dancin’ to the Oldies isn’t meeting right now, but you can get practicing for when the clubs resume normal meeting!

Perhaps dancing to music isn’t your thing, but creating it is?

Even better is the Ukelele Circle! Before normal club meetings resume, pick up your uke and learn some songs in the comfort of your living room. The good times and good vibes of these clubs cannot be overstated!

GARDENING AND COOKING CLASSES

Hey, what better a time to learn how to grow your very own produce, than now, in the midst of a supposed “Apocalypse”, am I right?

With thousands of online courses and videos online, it’s the perfect time to learn gardening and cooking. There are so many resources on websites like YouTube and SkillShare that the possibilities are endless!

Develop a green thumb, and prepare to cook your next favorite recipe with friends in our full-service test kitchen when facilities are open again!

At-Home Projects Anyone?

Perhaps the idea of being out in public or joining a club right now still gives you the hee-bee-jee-bees?

Eh, no need to fret friends, there is plenty to be done at home!

Say, how about that garden we mentioned above? Why not start on that garden now, classes or no?

Or perhaps now it’s finally time to paint the living room walls like you’ve always wanted? Your husband can’t back out now, where’s he going to go, right?!

Yard work, painting, home repairs or upgrades– the household chores may never end with unlimited time on your hands!

Of course, you can always indulge in other activities. Maybe you can finally teach yourself French or find your new favorite Netflix show (*hint hint* The Outlander).

Staying home doesn’t have to be miserable! There are limitless more hobbies and creative endeavors than anything you can dream. Between that and the boundless at-home chore list we’re all building up, your entertainment could never end.

Make the most of this self-quarantine from the COVID-19– it’s a blessing in disguise!
