3rd Annual Southwest Astronomy Festival
Calling all stargazers! Come to the third annual Southwest Astronomy Festival from September 27-29 for three days of stargazing and astronomical delights. Below is a complete list of events taking place this weekend in Washington County:
On the evening of Friday, September 27, the St. George Astronomy Group will be holding a free evening of stargazing at Tonaquint Nature Center in Tonaquint Park (1851 S. Dixie Drive). Come learn about planets, stars, galaxies and nebulae at this fun and informative event.
The Public Lands Office will also be holding a Night Sky Photography Workshop with BettyMaya Foott the evening of Sept. 27 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Bring the Milky Way to life in your own unique photographs! (Registration is required, please call 435-688-3298 to reserve a spot in the workshop beforehand.)
On Saturday, September 28, a Solar Party will be held for the whole family at the St. George Children’s Museum! From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., bring the kids and grandkids to the museum to learn about our solar system. Plus, safely look for sunspots and flares on the surface of Earth’s closest star, the Sun!
That evening, a Paint Night will be held at Tonaquint Nature Center as well. From 6 to 9 p.m., create your very own, unique painting of the night sky during this free introductory painting class! (Registration required, please call 435-688-3298 for more information and to hold a spot.)
On Sunday night (September 29), the Astronomy Festival will conclude with a Star Party at Gunlock State Park! From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., enjoy the brilliant night sky in one of the darkest places in all of Washington County.
