More than fifty years after his death, Hank Williams’s songs remain poignant. They have always revealed a side of each of us we may try to forget, whether lonely, long-suffering, or hopelessly romantic. When asked how he wrote his love songs, Hank replied like a whip. “Boy, you gotta live it!”

As a boy, Hank met middle-aged street singer Rufus Sewell, called Tee-Tot, an abbreviation of “Tee-totaler,” a playful name, considering the man’s steadfast loyalty to strong grain alcohol. From Tee-Tot, Hank learned to focus on his own pain, denuded within his mind by alcohol, and express it clearly in song, via the blues. The rest is history. This musical tells his story through his songs, his rage, his laughter, and his loneliness.

Hank Williams: Lost Highway will play at 7:30 p.m. on May 8, 9, 10, and 11, with a special 2 p.m. matinee on the 11th.
