Podcasts are the latest media craze in 2017, but with hundreds upon hundreds to choose from, the process of finding your latest favorite can be daunting. However, with some effort and research, curating your own personal radio station using podcasts about your interests can be incredibly rewarding and the perfect way to stay entertained during a commute, walk or just while running around town. Below are a few recommendations of podcasts worth checking out:

 

This American Life

This American Life is a weekly public radio show, heard by 2.2 million people on more than 500 stations. Most weeks, it is the most popular podcast in the country, with around 2.5 million people downloading each episode. Hosted by NPR’s Ira Glass, each episode takes a look at a particular theme or issue from a number of different perspectives through long-form journalism and storytelling.

 

The Daily

Hosted by Michael Barbarro and powered by New York Times journalism, The Daily is the perfect way to stay on top of the most important news of the day. And, at just twenty minutes per episode, it’s easy to fit into your daily schedule and stay informed in bite-size chunks of in-depth exploration into current events.

 

You Must Remember This

You Must Remember This is a “storytelling podcast about the secret and/or forgotten histories of Hollywood’s first century.” Distributed by the Panoply Network by Slate Magazine, the podcast is  hosted by Karina Longworth, who writes, narrates, records and edits each episode in her home. This podcast is incredibly well-researched and regularly features multi-episode miniseries on everything from Charles Manson’s Hollywood to the life and career of Judy Garland. Definitely worth diving into!

 

The David Gregory Show

The brainchild of former Meet the Press moderator and veteran journalist David Gregory, this eponymously-named podcast features in-depth interviews with prominent figures across all types of media. Using conversation, Gregory gets to know power players including media magnate Arianna Huffington and former NBC CEO Bob Wright to conservative political heavyweight Nicolle Wallace and ambassador David Saperstein.

 

Revisionist History with Malcom Gladwell

Hosted by Malcolm Gladwell, bestselling author of such works as The Tipping PointOutliersand Blink, this podcast examines historical events from the perspective of things overlooked and often misunderstood. Revisionist History goes back in time and reinterprets something from the past. Perfect for history buffs, the podcast will have listeners looking at everything from the fall of Saigon to landmark cases by the Supreme Court in an entirely different light.
