September 10, 2012

6874.McIlroyHeaderTT Rory McIlroy Trusts Pro V1x and Full Bag of Titleist Equipment to Capture Third Victory in Four WeeksTitleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy continues to make the extraordinary look normal. The World No. 1 missed only one fairway and rolled his Pro V1x golf ball in for six birdies Sunday to capture the BMW Championship for his third victory in four starts and second consecutive triumph of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The win maintained McIlroy’s postion atop the FedExCup standings while headlining a seven-win week across the worldwide professional tours for players who trusted their games to a Titleist golf ball.

5355.WinCount91012 Rory McIlroy Trusts Pro V1x and Full Bag of Titleist Equipment to Capture Third Victory in Four WeeksWith another standout weekend for Titleist golf ball loyalists, Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x players have now won 129 times across the worldwide professional tours in 2012, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 15 and more than all competitors combined.

McIlroy relied on his Pro V1x golf ball and a full complement of Titleist clubs, including a new 913D3 driver and prototype 913 fairway metals, and carded a final round 5-under 67 to finish at 20-under 268. The 23-year-old McIlroy now leads the PGA Tour with four wins this year.

To go back-to-back, McIlroy also relied on momentum.

“Some suggested that I could have taken a week off and still could have been in the top 5 in the FedExCup standings going into Atlanta, but I felt like I was playing really well and didn’t want to stop that run,” he said. “I sort of picked up where I left off in Boston, shot 64 the first day here, and just playing with a lot of confidence right now.”

What’s In Rory McIlroy’s Titleist Bag?:

Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
Driver:
New 913D3 8.5º (Mitsubishi Diamana Prototype 70X), C•2 SureFit Tour setting
Fairway Metals:
Prototype 913 13.5º (Fujikura ZCom Pro 95) and 18.0º (Fujikura Rombax Pro 95)
Irons:
Titleist MB 3-9 (True Temper Project X 7.0)
Wedge: Vokey Design SM4 46º, 54º, 60º (True Temper Project X 6.5)
Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport GSS prototype

McIlroy relied on his new Titleist 913D3 driver to rank T-5 in Driving Distance at the BMW Championship with a 306.9 yard average off the tee. His win also marks the second on the PGA Tour with Titleist’s prototype 913 fairway metals. Rory put prototype 13.5º and 18.0º 913 fairway metals in the bag at The Barclays, the first week they were introduced on Tour. Check out the story behind Rory’s 913 fitting here.

In addition to his solid long game, Rory acknowledges, “Putting has been a big key to that the last few weeks.” Using his Scotty Cameron putter, Rory averaged 27 putts over four days, tied for eighth among the field. He also ranked first in Eagles (2), and T-5 in birdies (23).

McIlroy’s win marks the 17th win by a Titleist Brand Ambassador this year on the PGA Tour. Joining McIlroy with multiple victories on the PGA Tour are Jason Dufner (Zurich Classic, Byron Nelson Championship) and Zach Johnson (Crowne Plaza Invitational, John Deere Classic).  Additional full product line Titleist ambassadors to win in 2012 include: Steve Stricker (Hyundai Tournament of Champions), Kyle Stanley (Waste Management Phoenix Open), Bill Haas (Northern Trust Open), Ben Curtis (Valero Texas Open), Webb Simpson (U.S. Open), Marc Leishman (Travelers Championship), Scott Stallings (True South Classic) and Scott Piercy (RBC Canadian Open).

“It’s been great. The last four weeks, five weeks have been incredible, some of the best golf that I’ve ever played. I’m going to try and keep the run going for as long as possible,” McIlroy said.

In total, 50 players in the 70-player field trusted Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls for their success, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 6 and more than all other golf balls combined. Titleist was also first in drivers (26), hybrids (17) iron sets (28), sand, lob and approach wedges (83) and putters (26).

LPGA: It took nine playoff holes and an extra day, but Pro V1 loyalist Jiyai Shin finally prevailed to win the Kingsmill Championship on Monday. Shin finished deadlocked at 16-under 268 in regulation, a result that required extra holes. Shin and her playoff competitor traded pars on the par-4 18th eight times in a row before darkness ended play on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. On Monday morning, the two players resumed the playoff, where Shin sealed the win with a two-putt par from 30 feet.

The win marks Shin’s first victory since the 2010 Mizuno Classic and her ninth career LPGA victory.

The 2008 Ricoh Women’s British Open champion joked after the round, “I know winning is always tough, but not this tough.”

“The first time I joined the Asian Tour, I couldn’t make the cut. I never thought I would come this far. After I won my first title (1996 Sabah Masters in Malaysia), I thought I could win more and I kept practicing.”

The practice has clearly paid off for the veteran player, who leads the Asian Tour in birdies with 191. The win also pushed him to second place on the Asian Tour’s career earnings list with over $3 million earned in 340 Asian Tour events.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Gaganjeet Bhullar closed with a final round 6-under 66 to finish alone in second place with a 13-under 275 total. Rahman Siddikur (Pro V1x) was among three players to tie for third place, another shot back.

Titleist was the top choice of more players in the Selangor Masters field in the golf ball category with 104 players, nearly five times the nearest competitor with 22.

“I am really, really thrilled,” the 29-year-old said after his victory. “This is what I have worked for all my life, so it is absolutely amazing to finally get there. It gives me a lot of security and it also repays the faith that my supporters and sponsors have shown in me over the years.”

Fisher finished the final four holes of regulation with an eagle, birdie, par, birdie to sign for the same 14-under par total as Basson. Fisher earned the victory with a birdie on the first playoff hole.8015.TrevorFisher 5F00 TT Rory McIlroy Trusts Pro V1x and Full Bag of Titleist Equipment to Capture Third Victory in Four Weeks

“It’s always nice to win,” said Fisher. “Last week was nice because it was at the coast, and to follow it up is always difficult. So I’m very chuffed. But I didn’t think I was going to win coming down the last five holes. I bleed for Christiaan, because I’ve been in his situation a few times where you’ve got a lead and somebody snatches it away from you.”

Doug McGuigan (Pro V1x) finished in solo third, two shots out of the playoff, and was followed by Titleist golf ball loyalist Danie van Tonder (Pro V1x), another two shots back. Two more Titleist Brand Ambassadors – Justin Harding and Colin Nel tied for fifth position, as the top six finishers all relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success, including five full product line loyalists.

913 Prototype Fairways and Hybrids Introduced at The Barclays

August 20, 2012
August 20, 2012

As the sun rises Monday morning on Long Island, N.Y., it will bring with it a series of firsts – the first event of the 2012 PGA Tour Playoffs at The Barclays, the first time The Barclays will be contested over the challenging Black Course at Bethpage State Park, and for Titleist Brand Ambassadors who have played their way into the playoffs it will be a first look at the new prototype Titleist 913 fairways and hybrids on the PGA Tour.

And we’re excited to be bringing you a quick look of what the players will be testing at The Barclays.

Team Titleist is en route to Bethpage Black and we’ll be checking in throughout the week with inside-the-ropes updates as players work with the Titleist Golf Club R&D team and Tour Reps to get their SureFit Tour settings dialed-in.

As with the 913 prototype driver launch at the AT&T National in June, this marks the official introduction of the new fairways and hybrids on the PGA Tour and kicks off the tour seeding and performance validation process that all Titleist clubs go through prior to being released in the market.

Quick Fact: 913 is the series designation for the new family of metals. Titleist continues to release metals under the 900 number designation with the “9” standing for metals and the “13” indicating the new model year, 2013.

As the tour seeding and performance validation process continues in the coming weeks across the worldwide professional tours, we’ll continue to share more news and product details here on Team Titleist.

Stay tuned!

VIDEO: How Do You Line Up Your Titleist Golf Ball?

August 17, 2012
August 17, 2012

(Please visit the site to view this video)

Here at Team Titleist, we have a lot of different conversations around one of our favorite topics – Titleist golf balls. The dialogue ranges from in-depth reviews of technology and performance to team members talking about the stand-out shots from over the weekend.

5488.rors 5F00 quote VIDEO: How Do You Line Up Your Titleist Golf Ball?As avid golfers, there’s also always talk about our own games and what some might call on-course superstitions (we prefer to call them routines). Earlier in the year, we asked a few colleagues how they lined up their Titleist golf ball on the tee and on the green. As you might imagine, there were a lot of different and interesting answers.

So we figured, let’s hear what some of the best players in the world have to say. With our trusty camera in hand, we hit the road and caught up with a number of Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists on the practice tee to get their story.

“I’m not superstitious, but I like to tee it up the same way every time,” said Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy. “I line the Pro V1x logo on the side, I usually line it up going towards the target.”

Titleist Brand Ambassador Geoff Ogilvy has an entirely different approach, “I like to see nothing, so I usually hit the Titleist logo, because that’s the best way to have it completely plain on top.”

So the question is, how do you line up your Titleist?

Share your story below and check out the video above to see what the rest of the pros had to say.

This week, the East Coast team is camped out at the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., with the Titleist Performance Golf Ball Fitting Van parked behind the 9th green.

Players of all ages and skill levels had the chance to meet some of our golf ball fitting experts, learn more about the entire family of Titleist golf balls and experience first-hand what Titleist Performance Golf Ball Fitting is all about. Take a closer look at Titleist’s Green to Tee approach here.

Titleist Brand Ambassadors Jason Bohn, Patrick Cantlay and Tim Clark  (a few players who know the importance of having the correct golf ball for their game) stopped by Wednesday to sign autographs, take photographs with fans and share the importance of trusting their golf ball on tour every week.
